How to naturally combat Helicobacter pylori bacteria

Posted on September 18, 2025September 18, 2025 by admin

1982, scientists discovered that many cases of stomach pain and ulcers are linked to a bacterium called Helicobacter pylori. Since then, this microorganism has been widely studied for its role in damaging the stomach lining and contributing to ulcers, gastritis, and other digestive problems.

While antibiotics are the standard medical treatment, research has also explored how certain natural foods and remedies may help support the body in reducing H. pylori activity and easing symptoms.

Natural Approaches That May Help

1. Manuka Honey

Manuka honey is known for its antimicrobial properties. Some studies suggest it can inhibit the growth of H. pylori. Adding a small amount of raw or Manuka honey to your daily diet—such as on toast or in tea—may offer supportive benefits.

2. Cranberry Juice

Research from China has shown that cranberry juice may help reduce the activity of H. pylori in the stomach. Regular consumption of unsweetened cranberry juice may support digestive health and protect the stomach lining.

3. Probiotics

Probiotics—beneficial bacteria found in yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, and supplements—have been studied for their role in restoring balance to the gut microbiome. Certain probiotic strains may reduce H. pylori levels and improve the effectiveness of conventional treatments.

4. Licorice Root (Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice, DGL)

Licorice has been traditionally used in Eastern medicine to soothe the stomach and support healing of ulcers. Studies suggest it may have protective effects against H. pylori by reducing inflammation and supporting the stomach lining. Choosing DGL licorice (without glycyrrhizin) is often recommended for safety.

Important Note

While these natural remedies can be helpful, they are not a guaranteed cure for Helicobacter pylori. Untreated infections may lead to ulcers or more serious complications. If you suspect you have H. pylori, consult a healthcare professional for proper testing and treatment. Natural remedies may serve as complementary support alongside medical care
