Hello,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I basically put my entire life on hold to take care of my dad. Quit going out, stopped dating, and eventually lost my job because I missed so much work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My brother? He lives across the country. Maybe called once a month, if that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dad passed earlier this year. At the will reading, my name didn\u2019t come up. Not once. Everything went straight to my brother.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I went home after and cried harder than I think I ever have. It felt like my dad just didn\u2019t see me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later, while sorting through dad\u2019s old books, I picked his favorite, and inside, right in the middle, was an envelope. On the front, in his shaky handwriting, it said: \u201cFor my child who stayed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I froze. I still haven\u2019t opened it. My brother has no clue it even exists. And I\u2019m stuck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Part of me thinks this could explain everything. Maybe it\u2019s money. Maybe it\u2019s an apology. Maybe it\u2019s nothing. But another part of me is terrified it\u2019ll just break me even more if it\u2019s not what I hope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not opening it is just dragging the weight around. Maybe set a small ritual, light a candle, whatever feels grounding, and give yourself permission to find out. At least then, you\u2019ll know what you\u2019re actually holding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s okay to be mad while grieving.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s okay to grieve and still be angry at him. Love and resentment can sit in the same room. Don\u2019t feel guilty of the messy mix of emotions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Write him a letter, say all the stuff you can\u2019t scream into the air. You don\u2019t even have to send it anywhere. Just unload it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brace yourself for what\u2019s coming next.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This isn\u2019t the last chapter of your story. It\u2019s just the hardest one. You\u2019ve been the caretaker, the invisible kid, the one who sacrificed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now you get to choose a role for yourself. It doesn\u2019t have to be heroic or impressive, it just has to be yours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
