So, me and my husband have been married for a year, and lately his parents have been hinting about wanting a grandkid. Like, every family dinner turns into them talking about \u201cwhen\u201d I\u2019ll get pregnant, not \u201cif.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The unexpected diagnosis.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Last month, my husband and I finally agreed to get checked, just to see if everything\u2019s good. I did my tests first, and my doctor told me I\u2019m fine. Then my husband did his test and yeah, turns out he\u2019s the one with the fertility issue. I figured we\u2019d deal with it privately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Demanding what\u2019s not hers.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Well\u2026 apparently, he told his mom. Big mistake. She calls me the next day, furious, saying I must have \u201ctricked\u201d him into thinking I was fine. Then she demands, I mean demands, to see my medical records. I told her that\u2019s personal and not happening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Crossing every boundary.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Two days later, I come home from work and my husband looks pale. He admits his mom went to my clinic, pretending to be me, and tried to get my records. They obviously didn\u2019t give them to her, but still??<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fertility irony uncovered.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Anyway, I went to my doctor to apologize for my MIL\u2019s behavior, and that\u2019s when my doctor told me that during his little stunt, he actually came across her own old test results from years ago, showing she also had fertility issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now I\u2019m just sitting here wondering why she can\u2019t be more supportive of her own son, especially since she knows exactly what those emotions feel like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Friends, a sibling, an online support group, people you can vent to without them trying to play peacemaker with your MIL. Having that safe space where you\u2019re heard and understood without judgment can make all the difference. It helps you process your feelings and gain perspective without added stress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    2.Talk to your husband separately about boundaries.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      This needs to be the two of you against the problem, not you vs. his family. He needs to understand that this isn\u2019t about fertility anymore; it\u2019s about trust, privacy, and whether he\u2019s willing to protect you from his family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      3.Give yourself permission to go low-contact.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

        It\u2019s not cold, it\u2019s self-preservation. You don\u2019t owe her warm family dinners after she impersonated you. Sometimes protecting your own peace means putting distance between yourself and toxic behavior, no matter who it comes from.
