For the first time in a long time, people saw the whole child instead of his hardest moments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The following spring, something happened that would have seemed impossible a year earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Andy was invited to two birthday parties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When Lily told me, she cried.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not because birthday invitations seem important to most people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But because, after years of watching her son get left out, those two invitations meant everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For the first time in years, her son was not being left out before anyone got the chance to know him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
