Chapter 1: The Ride Home
The morning I brought my daughter into the world, I thought the hardest part would be the pain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I thought it would be the stitches, the sleepless nights, the fear of doing something wrong as a first-time mother.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I had no idea the real heartbreak would come from my husband.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our daughter was born on a Friday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tiny, perfect, and impossibly beautiful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
By evening, I was exhausted, sore, and barely able to walk, but I was happy. Every ache felt worth it when I looked at her sleeping face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then it was time to go home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I shuffled through the hospital doors wearing oversized sweatpants and layers that pressed against every tender place on my body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
My daughter slept inside her infant carrier while the diaper bag dug painfully into my shoulder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Beside me walked my husband, Logan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Empty-handed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was not carrying the diaper bag. He was not carrying paperwork. He was not carrying the blanket the hospital had sent home with us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was carrying absolutely nothing.
Chapter 2: The Leather Seats
When we reached the pickup lane, Logan suddenly stopped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then he stared through the rear window of his luxury car and frowned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For a second, I genuinely thought he was joking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He pointed toward the back seat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe leather.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I waited for the punchline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It never came.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLogan,\u201d I said slowly, \u201copen the door.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He unlocked it, but continued staring at the seats as if they were priceless museum artifacts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMy leather is brand new,\u201d he said. \u201cIf she spits up in there, the smell will never come out.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I laughed once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not because it was funny.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because my brain refused to believe what I was hearing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI just gave birth.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He shrugged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chapter 3: The Car I Helped Buy
The absurdity hit me all at once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That car existed because of me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When my father died, I sold his lake house. Part of the money went into savings. Part paid bills. And part went toward the vehicle Logan insisted our growing family needed.Family<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For months, he had obsessed over it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He researched leather conditioners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Compared luxury packages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Spent more time reading car forums than helping assemble the crib.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Standing there outside the hospital, holding our newborn daughter, I suddenly saw everything differently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
